Dear September,

[In the spirit of trying to keep track of my going-ons, I am going to do monthly updates in the form of letters addressed to the month. This is the first month, September 2013.]

***

You have been an interesting month, September. We had a rocky start, with me a bundle of nerves and excitement fusing together to form a jittery and anxious body. But we got through, and you saw me take my first international flight and step foot into a foreign country by myself for the first time.

The beautiful cloisters at the university.

You saw me transition from traveller to student again. You brought me my first real autumn, filled with brown, crunchy leaves and scarves and sweaters and the ‘crisp autumn air’ I’d heard so much about.

You saw me gain new roommates, new friends, and a new perspective on my life. You took me through the giant that is Heathrow, to wandering the streets of Glasgow, and a brief jaunt into Edinburgh.

With you I found my favourite place in this city. I learned how to overcome some of my fears and how to be independent again. You have delivered me five rainbows through my bedroom window that make me reconsider my disbelief in fate and signs, because if I did, I feel like the Universe is sending me a strong message.

September, you have been a hectic month, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
